For it’s 100th birthday, Finland built itself an enourmous library with dozens of resources for the community. It showcases some of the best ideals that Finland has to offer, and is a simply wonderful place to visit.

The People of Finland

Finns are among the nicest and most pragmatic people in the world. They are welcoming, generous, and polite. Their directness and preference for quiet can be mistaken for rudeness, but nothing could be further from the truth.

History

Finland is a land rich with history. The people of Finland of refer to a unique quality they call ‘Sisu’, which is best translated as, ‘strength and determination in the face of adversity’. It is their Sisu that helped the Finns gain their independence in 1917, and keep their democracy ever since.

Culture

Finland’s culture has helped to produce many wonderful artists and works of art from the Moomin books of Tove Jansson, to the classical music works of Jean Sibelius and their national epic poem, the Kalevala.

Geography

The geography of Finland’s urban and rural areas affords it’s people the opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreation during it’s varied seasons when they choose. Greenspace surrounds the larger cities, and gives way to lake-country as you travel north.
